Do you want a beautiful and low-maintenance garden? Look out for plants that don’t fear shade and don’t need frequent watering and pruning. Let us tell you about the most beautiful of them.

If you’re in the planning stages of your garden or choosing flowers for a new bed, look no further than crocuses. The juicy little buds of these flowers appear as early as May and will continue to show off their beauty until mid-June. They quietly grow both in the sun and in the penumbra and are unpretentious to the quality of the soil. Just do not flood the bed with crocuses.

This evergreen flowering plant simply spreads over the soil surface. The periwinkle is not afraid of weeds and can grow safely in the shade. Its exceptional resilience and bright blue flowers are perfect for any garden.

Stunningly beautiful flowers that will delight you for over a month with their colours. Some species of astilbe grow taller than one metre. The plant starts to bloom in early summer and requires periodic watering. However, if you go on holiday for a couple of weeks and are unable to look after the garden, don’t worry – the astilbe will definitely survive.

Brunnera is considered an indispensable plant for a shady area. Its flowering starts in mid-April and lasts for more than a month. The green leaves of brunnera are complemented by many bright little blue flowers, which are very similar to the forget-me-nots. The brunnera bush can reach 30 to 50 cm in height and looks great in the garden when paired with shade-loving hostas and astilbe.

This unpretentious plant can be found not only in the countryside, but also in the fields. Blue, white, pink, purple spike-like inflorescences appear in early June. But this is not all, lupine continues its flowering in the second half of summer. The plant is easily propagated by seeds and overwinters well.

The most versatile garden plant. It is completely unpretentious and does well in both shade and semi-shade. It tolerates drought and cold very well. The juicy, large green leaves of the hosta are an excellent background for compositions with other flowers. Over time, the hosta bush grows and becomes even more colourful.

One of the most colourful and fragrant perennials in the garden that grows even in poor soils. Phloxes tolerate semi-shade well, but bloom best in sunny areas. Flowering begins in mid-summer and lasts until autumn frosts.

The bright multicoloured patterned flowers of the carnation bloom in June. These fragrant inflorescences are hard to confuse with other plants. Carnation is considered one of the most unpretentious flowers and can be found in almost every area. It does not like very wet soil and grows well in both light and shade.

A completely unpretentious plant that will not require any effort from you in care. This is because oregano grows in forest edges and dry meadows. It can be recognised by its compact bushes with small tender-green leaves and caps of abundant small lilac-pink flowers. In late summer, oregano can be dried and used in tea collections.

If you have shaded corners in your dacha where flowering plants don’t take root, plant fern there. It calmly tolerates unfavourable conditions and depleted soil. But it looks great, too.
And to keep your garden looking great all year round, add some beautiful décor and street lighting.
